VAM Systems is seeking an IT Operations Specialist to support the reliable and continuous operation of critical banking applications and technology services in Manama, Bahrain.

The role involves application and system monitoring, database operations, backup and recovery, incident management, job scheduling, disaster recovery support, and coordination with infrastructure, database, application, and technical support teams.

The successful candidate will contribute to service availability and operational continuity within a banking technology environment. The position requires practical knowledge of IT operations, databases, operating systems, backup and recovery technologies, monitoring tools, job scheduling, and incident escalation procedures.

Candidates with 1–2 years of experience in banking IT operations, IT infrastructure, data center operations, database support, application monitoring, or technical support are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

IT Operations & Application Monitoring

• Monitor critical banking applications, systems, and technology services to help maintain availability and operational continuity.
• Perform scheduled Start of Day (SOD) and End of Day (EOD) activities in accordance with established procedures.
• Monitor application and system performance and identify conditions that could affect service availability.
• Review system and application alerts, perform appropriate first-level checks, and escalate issues when required.
• Carry out routine operational activities across applications, infrastructure, databases, and related technology services.
• Follow established IT service-management processes, operational procedures, and escalation guidelines.
• Maintain accurate operational records and ensure assigned tasks are completed within required timelines.

Database & System Monitoring

• Monitor Oracle and SQL Server databases for availability, storage capacity, alerts, performance indicators, and operational issues.
• Support database backup, restoration, and recovery activities as required.
• Monitor Windows, Solaris, and Linux environments for system alerts and operational issues.
• Identify abnormal system or database conditions and escalate incidents to the appropriate technical teams.
• Monitor hardware, applications, operating systems, and relevant data center activities.
• Maintain records relating to system status, incidents, backups, and recovery activities.

Backup, Replication & Recovery

• Perform and monitor scheduled backup and restore activities for supported systems and applications.
• Monitor backup environments using technologies such as Veritas NetBackup and Veeam.
• Review backup jobs and identify failed, incomplete, or exceptional jobs requiring technical attention.
• Monitor data replication between production environments and Disaster Recovery (DR) sites.
• In collaboration with the appropriate technical teams, assist with restoration and recovery efforts.
• Maintain accurate records of backup, restore, replication, and recovery operations.

Incident Management & Technical Support

• Identify, record, categorize, and escalate application, system, database, and user-related incidents.
• Provide first-level technical or help desk support during assigned shifts or outside normal business hours when required.
• Follow established incident-management, escalation, and service-management procedures.
• Clearly provide pertinent incident information to the database, application, infrastructure, and support teams.
• Track operational issues and provide appropriate status updates until they are transferred or resolved.
• Assist with identifying recurring operational issues and provide information to support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.

Job Scheduling & Disaster Recovery

• Monitor Control-M job flows, schedules, and alerts and escalate failed or abnormal processes.
• Support routine batch-processing activities and investigate operational exceptions at the first level.
• Assist with disaster recovery operations, testing, and DR center activities as assigned.
• Coordinate with infrastructure, database, application, and other IT teams during operational and recovery activities.
• Support service-continuity requirements by ensuring assigned monitoring, scheduling, and operational tasks are completed accurately and on time.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 1–2 years of professional experience in IT Operations, IT Support, Infrastructure Operations, Application Support, Data Center Operations, or a related technical environment.
• Previous experience in the banking or financial services sector is required.
• Practical understanding of IT operations, system monitoring, incident management, and technical escalation.
• Working knowledge of Oracle and SQL Server, including basic database monitoring and operational support
• Understanding of Windows, Solaris, and Linux operating systems.
• Knowledge of backup, restoration, data replication, and disaster recovery concepts.
• Familiarity with data center operations and technology-service monitoring.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for investigating routine IT operational issues.
• Good understanding of service availability, operational continuity, and timely incident escalation in a banking environment.
• Good written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with technical teams and documenting operational activities.
• Ability to work effectively with database, infrastructure, application, and support teams.
• Willingness to work in a 24/7 operational environment, including shifts or after-hours support when required.
• Strong attention to detail when performing scheduled operational tasks and maintaining technical records.
• Ability to follow documented procedures consistently, particularly during scheduled SOD/EOD, backup, recovery, and operational activities. 

Preferred Skills & Certifications

• Exposure to Control-M, Veeam, and Veritas NetBackup.
• IT certifications related to Windows, Linux, SQL, databases, or other relevant technologies.
• ITIL certification or equivalent knowledge.
• Experience supporting banking applications, financial systems, data centers, or disaster recovery environments.
• Familiarity with enterprise monitoring and service-management tools.
• Ability to quickly learn new banking technology platforms, operational procedures, and monitoring tools.
