Baker Hughes is looking for an experienced Applications Engineer to support its oilfield services activities in Muscat, Oman. This position focuses on Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP) applications, well surveillance, production optimization, technical troubleshooting, equipment reliability, and customer support GCC Jobs .

The successful candidate will provide engineering assistance for new ESP installations, well workovers, and production improvement projects. The role involves evaluating well performance, selecting and optimizing suitable ESP equipment, investigating operational challenges, and recommending practical solutions to improve production efficiency and system reliability.

The position also involves working closely with field operations, customer engineering teams, production specialists, and product support teams. The engineer will contribute to technical reviews, failure investigations, commissioning activities, and performance improvement initiatives while providing both office-based and field-level engineering support.

Key Responsibilities

ESP Applications Engineering

• Design and recommend suitable ESP systems for new wells, installations, and workover activities.
• Conduct well performance assessments, including inflow and outflow analysis.
• Support pump sizing, equipment selection, and ESP system optimization .
• Prepare technical proposals, engineering reports, and operational recommendations.
• Review ESP performance and identify opportunities to improve production and equipment run life.
• Provide engineering input for artificial lift and production optimization activities.

Technical Troubleshooting & Problem Solving

• Investigate ESP performance issues and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
• Analyze production declines, electrical problems, equipment failures, and system inefficiencies.
• Work with field operations and product specialists to resolve technical challenges.
• Provide engineering assistance during critical well interventions and operational activities.
• Support customers with both remote and onsite technical troubleshooting.

Failure Analysis & Reliability

• Participate in Detailed Incident Failure Analysis (DIFA) investigations involving ESP equipment .
• Perform root cause analysis and assess equipment performance following failures.
• Review failure trends and identify opportunities for reliability improvement.
• Support corrective and preventive action plans and monitor their effectiveness.
• Contribute to initiatives designed to improve ESP reliability and operating performance.

Customer & Field Support

• Act as a technical point of contact for customers regarding ESP-related requirements.
• Participate in technical, operational, and performance review meetings.
• Work closely with customer engineering, production, and operations teams.
• Present technical recommendations, performance results, and optimization opportunities.
• Maintain a regular presence at customer offices and field locations when required.
• Support installation planning, commissioning, startup reviews, and system optimization.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in applications engineering, well surveillance, and well optimization.
• Practical understanding of ESP systems, artificial lift, production performance, and oilfield operations ESP system.
• Experience with well performance analysis, equipment selection, and technical troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of failure investigation and root cause analysis is advantageous.
• Strong ability to coordinate teams, stakeholders, customers, and operational priorities.
• Excellent written, verbal, communication, and presentation skills jobs in Muscat.
• Ability to work effectively within a global and matrix-based organization.
• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation outside standard working hours.
• Ability and willingness to travel to rig sites, customer facilities, meetings, training sessions, and other operational locations.
