Software Test Engineer – Web Services Testing Full Time NEW

Job Overview

Cognizant is seeking an experienced Software Test Engineer / Senior Test Analyst with hands-on expertise in Web Services Testing, REST API Testing, SoapUI and ReadyAPI.

The role focuses on validating web services and APIs, creating and executing test cases, identifying defects and supporting software quality throughout the testing lifecycle. The successful candidate will work with API requests and responses, authentication, headers, status codes and functional testing requirements.

This position is suitable for a testing professional who has strong analytical skills, understands API testing processes and can contribute effectively to functional, regression and web services testing activities.

Key Responsibilities

Web Services & API Testing

• To perform functional testing of web services and REST APIs.
• Ability to validate API requests and responses against defined requirements.
• Verify authentication, headers, parameters and HTTP status codes.
• Use SoapUI and ReadyAPI to develop and execute web services test scenarios.
• Identify unexpected API behavior, data issues and service-level defects.
• Perform structured API validation across applicable application environments.

Test Case Design & Execution

• Create detailed test cases and test scenarios based on business and technical requirements.
• Develop and maintain test suites for API and web services testing.
• Execute functional and regression testing activities.
• To review test results and verify that expected functionality is delivered.
• Maintain accurate test documentation and execution records.
• Contribute to test strategies and improve testing coverage where required.

Defect Management

• Identify and document defects discovered during testing.
• Record clear test evidence and relevant technical details for identified issues.
• Track defects through the testing and resolution process.
• Coordinate with development and technical teams to support issue investigation.
• Perform retesting after defects are resolved.
• Conduct regression checks to confirm that fixes have not affected existing functionality.

API Automation & Quality

• Support API automation activities where applicable.
• Identify suitable testing activities that can benefit from automation.
• Contribute to reusable test scenarios and improved testing efficiency.
• Follow established software quality and testing practices.
• Support continuous improvement of testing processes and overall application quality.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• 3–5 years of hands-on professional experience in software testing, with strong practical exposure to API and Web Services Testing.
• Proven experience working with REST APIs and validating web services in software or enterprise application environments.
• Strong practical knowledge of SoapUI and/or ReadyAPI for creating, configuring and executing web services test scenarios.
• Good understanding of REST API architecture, including request and response structures, parameters, headers, authentication methods and HTTP status codes.
• Experience designing comprehensive test cases, test scenarios and test suites based on functional and technical requirements.
• Hands-on experience executing functional testing to verify that applications and services perform according to defined requirements.
• Practical experience conducting regression testing following application changes, enhancements, fixes or releases.
• Ability to analyze API responses and identify functional, data, integration or service-related issues during testing.
• Experience with defect management, including identifying, documenting, tracking and retesting software defects.
• Ability to provide clear and accurate defect information to development and technical teams to support investigation and resolution.
• Experience reviewing test results and maintaining appropriate testing documentation and execution records.
• Understanding of software quality assurance principles, testing methodologies and structured test processes.
• Ability to contribute to test planning and support the development of appropriate test strategies and testing coverage.
• Knowledge of API automation concepts or practical exposure to API automation tools and frameworks is preferred.
• Familiarity with Billing & Revenue Management (BRM) or related business domains is an advantage.
• ISTQB certification is preferred but not mandatory.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a methodical approach to identifying and investigating software issues.
• Good attention to detail, particularly when reviewing API requests, responses, test results and application behavior.
• Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain testing results and technical issues clearly.
• Ability to work effectively with developers, technical teams and other project stakeholders during testing and defect-resolution activities.
• Ability to manage assigned testing activities, meet deadlines and maintain accurate records throughout the testing cycle.
• Willingness to follow established quality standards, testing procedures and software engineering practices.
• Ability to work from the office in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, according to the requirements of the position.
